Kochi Green Hydrogen Hub

The German Development Agency, GIZ, and the Government of Kerala are jointly working to build the Kochi Green Hydrogen Hub. The tender was floated by GIZ for the development of a roadmap for a green hydrogen cluster in Kochi and awarded to research and consulting firm, MEC Intelligence. The project aims to link different players along with the entire value chain of green hydrogen – starting from renewable energy, going to production of green hydrogen, potentially into off take by refineries or mobility or into further processing into ammonia for offtake by the fertiliser and maritime sector with a potential capital expenditure of INR 18,542 Crore. The hub will have a capacity of 120 kilo tonnes per annum (kTPA), featuring a 1 GW electrolyser, storage facilities, and necessary infrastructure. Establish an export-oriented unit to cater to additional markets due to presence of water and development of port infrastructure in the green hydrogen valley. In subsequent phases, industrial demand from refineries, fertiliser, and chemical plants will drive capacity expansion and scale-up of the hub.

ANERT had coordinated the preparation of the roadmap, which was released formally in the International Conference on Green Hydrogen (ICGH) 2024 organised by MNRE (Delhi, Sep 11-13,
